Congrats Kathryn
Congratulations to Lieutenant Kathryn Murphy, our
Ambassadorial Scholar, upon completion of her Master's Degree program in Russian language and Eurasia Politics from Oxford University, England. We look forward to many great things from Katie as she heads for full time Army life.
Katie is
enrolled at the Most Prestigious Oxford University in England on a Rotary Foundation
Ambassadorial Scholarship where last fall she studied Russia
language and Eurasian politics.
Her first
association with Rotary started at Mountain Ridge High School Interact Club and
as one of Peoria North Rotary Club's first Students of the Month. Following graduation from Mountain Ridge as
class valedictorian she accepted her appointment to the U. S. Military Academy
at West Point.
Katie's
record at West Point is phenomenal.
Obviously, recognized early for her leadership abilities she was
selected for the most coveted positions and opportunities as a cadet. As an example - in the summer prior to her
senior year she served as an intern with the National Security Council in the
While House. In her final year at the
Academy she was the Brigade Operations Officer, the fourth highest ranking
cadet position responsible for the planning and executing all events and daily
operations for the 4600 member Corps of Cadets.
She received the Superintendent's, Distinguished Cadet and Spirit of
Service Awards.
In addition
to her academic work and military duties, She found time to sing and travel
with the Academy Cadet Glee Club for four years. She was a Cadet Tutor, worked with Special
Olympics, performed for USO events, volunteered for Wounded Warriors and served
as an editor for public policy paper submissions.
